About

Hello, my name is Sonia and I am here to help you bring your doll making dreams to life!

I am currently a stay-at-home mumma to two gorgeous little boys, Hunter and Bronson. They are the inspiration behind my brand Hunny + Bee.

Since 2013 when I was on maternity leave with my first child, I have launched two online businesses specialising in homemade with love sewn items; Oompi Baby which supplies cute matching bibs and shorties for your bubbas, and A Rainbow of Colours, which has featured my sewing of dolls and softies from other designer’s patterns. My focus now is on my own pattern making adventures with Hunny + Bee.

My promise to you is to provide sewing patterns that stay true to my visual aesthetic and are rewarding for you to sew!

With Hunny + Bee, I will be providing you not only with patterns that I hope you’ll love but also provide you with tricks and tips along the way to help you with your doll and softie making. If you have any sewing questions that I can help with, come along and visit my Facebook page and online communtiy and I will be happy to assist you with your queries!

I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, and I have friends who remind me still of how I helped them with their sewing during High School Home Economics which makes me happy. My mother however reminds me of how I used to tangle up her sewing machine… whoops!

Ok, so aside from my babies and making dolls and softies, what else is interesting about me?

I also am a balloon artist. What exactly does that mean? Well I get to dress up and be invited to all kinds of fun events and make balloon art! It is as fun as it sounds, and it is something that I am interested in incorporating into my doll making and my pattern offerings to you!

Something else that I like to do is cosplay. In pursuit of my desire to learn more about patterning, I completed study in Fashion Design and received my Cert IV. Believe it or not, but we were able to make our own leather shoes. Not too many people might say that they got to learn shoe making during their higher education haha!

To give you a peek at this hobby, here is a picture of me cosplaying as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. I really loved this costume (even went to the trouble of sourcing the original fabric used to create the gown!!) and wanted to help other people aspiring to make this costume, which I have documented here on an old (sadly neglected!) blog of mine.

So that is a little about me! I love to create, I love to design and I love to share what I learn with anyone who asks!

I look forward to providing to you beautiful patterns and I hope that you might be able to help you along on your sewing journey! Let’s make beautiful handmade treasures together.
